Supporting the Homeless
Many people come to our doors looking to make changes in their lives, and at Hope Awaits we are blessed to partner with them on their journey. To many we become like family- and at times the only family they have ongoing connection with. This can make moving out on their own very difficult, and many may feel alone having left old habits, places and friends behind on their way to a changed life.
We all want them to be successful, yet can we really expect them to succeed if they don’t have the support they need? God created us for friendship and community with others, and Walk With Me seeks to help build this community into the lives of the men we serve.
What is Walk With Me?
Walk With Me is a mentorship program geared to support clients as they move out of Hope Awaits. It pairs followers of Christ with men who are getting ready to step out on their own, providing much needed support and encouragement. This partnership allows friendships to form and develop, helping them build the support system that is necessary for everyday life.
How It Works
As a mentor you will meet and connect together with your mentee regularly, developing a friendship, sharing life together and helping him to establish other godly connections. You will have the opportunity to encourage and walk alongside your mentee as he establishes himself in the community.
Why Should I Become A Mentor?
Perhaps you wonder, “How can I help those in need?” or, “Can I really make a difference?” Befriending one of our clients and journeying with him gives you the opportunity to live out the great commission. Lasting change becomes possible when we support one another.
As a Mentor I Will:
Give encouragement and support
Meet regularly with my mentee
Pray for my mentee regularly
Be a godly example and witness for Christ
Connect my mentee with others
Mentor Requirements
Mentors must
Profess Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour
Be 18+ years old
Complete a mentor application form
Agree with Hope Awaits Ministries' statement of faith, mission statement, vision statement, core values, and code of conduct
Complete the shelter training provided by our staff
Commit to connecting regularly with a mentee
Attend mentor debrief meetings as required
