Homelessness in North Bay - 2021
In October 2021, Nipissing District conducted a 24-hour point in time count.
Based on the 213 surveys in the count, it was found that there were 300 homeless in our region, a 2.4% increase since the 2020 count.
Gender
Out of the 300 individuals, 61% identified as male.
Age
26% of participants were young adults between the ages of 25-34.
29% of participants were adults between the ages of 35-44.
Indigenous Status
Over 42% of participants identified as indigenous.
Length of Time Homeless
Out of those surveyed, 46.5% identified that they had been homeless for at least six months of the last year.
Reasons for Housing Loss
The top five reasons for housing loss in 2021 were:
Reasons not indicated (18%)
Conflict with spouse/partner (14%)
Substance Abuse (14%)
Incarceration (12%)
Not enough income for housing (11%)
Barriers to Obtaining Housing
The top five barriers to obtaining housing in 2021 were:

Homelessness in North Bay - 2020
In March 2020, Nipissing District conducted a 24-hour point in time count.
Based on the 254 surveys in the count, it was found that there were 293 homeless in our region, a 62% increase since the 2018 count.
Gender
Out of the 293 individuals, 67% identified as male.
Age
36% of participants were young adults between the ages of 25-34.
44% of participants were adults between the ages of 35-44.
Indigenous Status
Over 40% of participants identified as indigenous.
Length of Time Homeless
Out of those surveyed, 19% identified that they had been homeless for at least a year.
Shelter Stays
65% of participants answered that they had stayed in a shelter in the past 12 months.
