Emergency Care and Connect Plan
It has been over a month since Hope Awaits had to make the difficult decision to temporarily close the home and restructure our operations. During this time our Board of Directors and Executive Director are building towards re-opening the centre, which includes searching for more staff and volunteers, building church and community involvement, and formulating new policies and programs.
After the house closure in April, Hope Awaits implemented an Emergency Care and Connect Program. Due to the generous support of meals and supplies from the local churches and the community, this program has been a success! Over the past month and a half, the clients have continued to work towards independence; and now most of them have reached a reasonable stage of independence and have secured housing and support. We have taken time to re-evaluate the Emergency Care and Connect Program and have decided to move into a new phase. This new phase consists of a transitional program that is geared to suit the clients’ individual situation and needs.

FAQ
Is Hope Awaits shut down?
No. We have temporarily reduced operations only.
Why did you shutdown the shelter facilities and client intake?
We have had a sudden dramatic reduction in staff, mostly due to the Covid-19 pandemic, that resulted in our inability to properly administrate and run the shelter facilities.
What do you need in order to re-open?
We need a minimum of two additional full-time staff, preferably male and/or a combination of additional volunteers. If you are interested in applying, please contact Hope Awaits.
Do you have enough staff to monitor?
Yes. Both to monitor and implement the plan
Some of your staff are self isolating. Have they been cleared and have any others been affected?
Self Isolation has been solely due to care for vulnerable family members by reducing the risk of infection. No-one, whether staff, clients or volunteers, have reported or been assessed with symptoms. Therefore, under present government guidelines, none have been clinically tested for Covid-19.
